My name is Gail and I am a Havanese exhibitor and breeder, anhd all-round dog lover, located in Canberra, Australia. My love of Havanese started many years ago when I read about this delightful breed and decided they sounded like the perfect companion dog. Decades passed before Havanese came to Australia, and I am now lucky enough to have these gorgeous muppets in my life.
I started my involvement in the dog world in dog rescue and dog sports. My first dogs were saved from pounds, and they have fun competing in obedience and agility. I was involved with dog rescue in the 2000's, and during this time, devoted much of my life to saving dogs that, through no fault of their own, ended up at a shelter.
In 2008 I got my first Havanese. 'Magic' entered my life with a bang and stole my heart. I spent the following three years showing and titling Havanese and gaining the knowledge and experience needed to become a breeder. In 2010 I imported 'Buzz' to use in my future breeding program. We flew to NZ to collect him and accompany him on the flight home. See photo - that's not a setup, he really was brought to the loading dock by forklift.
In early 2012, Karyme's first litter of Havanese was born, and the rest - as they say - is history.

Why get a puppy from Karyme?
Nessie, my West Highland White terrier x, came from this puppy farm, when it closed down within a year of the footage being taken. She had been used for breeding and had no quality of life. Dogs slept without bedding, did not leave their enclosures, had untreated illnesses and injuries, and had little (if any) positive contact with people. We spent a lot of time working with Nessie, but it still took three years before she trusted another person.
There is an alternative to buying a puppy that has been bred in a puppy farm. We are a small-scale 'hobby' breeder of purebred Havanese. All our dogs live as pets - they come and go from the house to the garden as they please, eat and sleep inside, and get individual attention. Puppies are raised inside and used to household activities and routines. They know what it is like to run full pelt around the garden, play with people and other dogs, and of course get cuddles!
I health test to reduce the likelihood of problems. Our adults and pups are checked regularly by our Veterinarian (and our pups come with a health guarantee and a written vet check).
My advice is to look at whether you are happy with living conditions, health testing, quality of life, health guarantees and breeder support before making a decision on where to get your next pup.

Showing
Myself and others regularly show Karyme Havanese and have fantastic results in the show ring. My first Havanese 'Magic' obtained his Supreme Championship title, is a multi-BIG and Royal BOB winner, and has multiple champion progeny. Since then, Karyme havanese have won multiple Best In Groups (and runner up BIG), multiple Best In Show (and runner up Best in Show) and well over 100 classes in group and show.
As of 2016, Karyme has titled over 20 Havanese - 9 of these bred here at Karyme. Karyme Havanese have won multiple Royal Best of Breeds, multiple Royal Puppy In Group awards and a Royal Runner Up Best In Group. My foundation dog Magic won the first 25 point breed challenge for Havanese in Australia, and more recenlty, Karyme Peloton owned by Tracy Stewart became the youngest Havanese in Australia to win a Best in Show!
The success of Karyme Havanese is in a large part due to the wonderful people who exhibit my dogs. Thanks go to Philippa and Morgan Hurst, Pamela Harding, Selene Samuelsson and Tracy Stewart. Thanks also to the wonderful Georgie Hampson of Cubet Havanese who gave me my start in the breed and continues to be a great mentor and friend.
Karyme Havanese are shown predominantly in SE NSW and the ACT

Dog Sports
Though conformation showing has taken up the majority of my time lately, I also have participated in obedience and agility with my dogs. We have had modest success with a couple of novice titles. I am immensely proud of these as they represent 100s of hours of training and dedication to my dogs.
I believe in making my dogs lives as interesting, fun and happy as possible. |
